BCCI announce 17-member squad for T20I series against Ireland; Hardik Pandya to lead
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named as Pandya's deputy for the Ireland series.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday
announced a 17-member squad for the T20I series against Ireland, starting
on June 26. Notably, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, who have been regular
in India's T20I setup, have been not included in the squad as the duo will
fly to England to prepare for the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston.
In the absence of Pant, Rahul, the IPL 2022 winner Hardik Pandya
has been given the responsibility to lead the Men in Blue. Notably, in his
maiden stint as captain, Pandya led Gujarat Titans to their maiden IPL title. Meanwhile,
veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar has been named as Pandya’s deputy for the 2-match
T20I series.
Suryakumar Yadav has returned to the squad after recovering
from a forearm injury. Sanju Samson also returns to the squad after being omitted
for the ongoing series against South Africa. Rahul Tripathi, who had a
brilliant season with Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022, has received his maiden
call-up to the national side.
India will play two T20Is at Malahide on June 26 and 28.
